Shabu Shabu is translated as "swish swish" I'm told. So this meal you get raw vegetables usually lettuces and cabbage and maybe some tofu (thats what comes in the flying saucer dish) and some raw beef (thats the empty plate in the front of the picture) and then you swish swish them in the boiling water/broth on the burner in the middle of the table. When they are cooked you dip them into one of the sauces in front of you and eat (that's the two small bowls on either side of my rice bowl).
This meal is a replacement for my breakfast. The breakfast at the hotel is not open very long but you can trade in your breakfast coupon for Beef Shabu Shabu. Seems like a good trade to me! Yum!
