Loy Krathong

I'm back to the blogging world. I think.
So I'm going to just start with the more recent and then maybe backdate some stuff to fill in the gaps.

So on my side trip to Thailand it was the Thai festival "Loy Krathong". This night marks the full moon of the twelfth lunar month of the Thai calendar (usually in November). Let me fill you in on the traditions of Loy Krathong with a few pictures.

This is the time of year in Thailand when the rivers are at their fullest and they celebrate by honoring the water spirits and making wishes while placing a Krathong in the water.

The Krathong is usually made of banana leaves and flowers with a candle and an incense stick. Sometimes the Krathong is made out of colored bread (like the ladies have above). The fish seemed to really enjoy those Krathongs.

After lighting the Krathong a wish is made and the Krathong is placed into the water. Tradition says that if the Krathong stays lit then the wish will be fulfilled.

It is also very common on this evening to light off fireworks, fire crackers and sparklers along with Lanterns that go up into the sky.
